First time home buyer in Canton

Hello, Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $106,900, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $106,900 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in West for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- The school system scene is tough

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
