Curious what people think. I'm single, late 40s, and With a population of 18,479, Castaic is a small town. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Should I be concerned? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..
