First post here. My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $1,753 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The housing market is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Highland for 3 years. Moved from Baltimore for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited high-paying job options. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
