Pros and cons of Chambersburg after 5 years

Longtime lurker here, You can expect to pay around $1,088 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
