Things that make Charlestown unique

Hey, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Homes are going for about $191,200 on average. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Vietnamese places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Moved here from Pittsburgh about 12 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to school system but No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in South for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The job market scene is tough

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..
