Biggest downsides of living in Chesterfield?

First post here. With a population of 49,591, Chesterfield is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $458,000 on average. The median home value here is around $458,000, which is pretty steep. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Strong sense of community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 5 years. Moved from Boston for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is tough - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Bugs and humidity in summer. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
