As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much wild but now it's excellent.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I work in marketing here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is pretty good. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 43, moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in East and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The cultural scene is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The cultural scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Springfield for 2 years. Moved from Nashville for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Limited shopping options. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
