Anyone else feel this way? Just moved here 17 months ago and Median household income is $67,929, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $1,442/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 12.6%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $455,300, which is pretty steep. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What are your go-to spots? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Used to live on the North side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from San Diego about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
