Moving to Choctaw Lake for work -advice?

I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider -Choctaw Lake sits at 140.1 per 100K. Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Austin it's pretty good.
