Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Midtown for 14 years. Moved from Minneapolis for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Homeless population growing downtown. And weather can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much developing but now it's hit or miss.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
