Rent in Clear Lake getting crazy

So, We have two kids and The median home value here is around $235,100, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 7,603, Clear Lake is a small town. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Is this normal for Clear Lake? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- The job market scene is average

The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone about the same since then.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much competitive but now it's challenging.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is excellent in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 26, moved here 6 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
