Hey everyone, I grew up here but left for a while. Crime rate is something to consider -Clearlake sits at 772.7 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 16,604 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I overthinking this?

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
