Hello, Military spouse here. Crime rate is something to consider -Clearlake sits at 772.7 per 100K. Poverty rate is 17.6%, which is higher than I expected. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

I've lived in West for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The public transit scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Korean.
No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The walkability is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
