Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $652,200, which is pretty steep. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Let me know your thoughts. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The food scene is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Chicago about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I work in hospitality here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is excellent. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely tough and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Westside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The walkability scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..
