Coal City is underrated, change my mind

First post here. Born and raised here. With a population of 5,145, Coal City is a small town. Rent is about $1,064/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Coal City sits at 74.9 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Is this normal for Coal City? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
