First post here. I'm originally from Kansas City and Homes are going for about $150,700 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Highland) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much pricey but now it's challenging.

I've lived in Springfield for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
