Colby is underrated, change my mind

Curious what people think. The median home value here is around $150,700, which is actually reasonable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is average in most areas.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 5 years. Moved from Denver for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is improving - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Nightlife is limited. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I work in engineering here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
