Housing market in College Station — is it worth buying?

Median home value here is around $326,500. Prices are reasonable compared to major metros. For those renting, typical rent is $1168.

Is now a good time to buy in College Station? Or better to keep renting?

Looking for opinions from both homeowners and renters.

Rent tip: look for places in October-November. Prices drop and there's more availability.

Coming from San Francisco, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is the west side tends to be more affordable. Makes a big difference.

If you can afford it, Lakewood is the best place to live. Period.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Oakwood. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Pine Grove and Westside are perfectly safe.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

As someone who moved here from New York, I can confirm most of this. The cost of living surprised me the most.
