So, Just moved here 17 months ago and It's a a small town city with about 9,211 people. The median home value here is around $124,800, which is actually reasonable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I work in education here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The weather is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in Highland for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The dating scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..
