Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 21.1%, which is higher than I expected. Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $220,500, which is actually reasonable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The traffic is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The nightlife is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
