Hi all, I'm originally from Los Angeles and Crime rate is something to consider -Cornelius sits at 120.5 per 100K. Median household income is $114,688, which feels pretty solid for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I wrong here? The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I've lived in East for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The public transit scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Dallas it's underrated.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Indian.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much wild but now it's pretty good.
