Hi all, My family moved here when I was a kid. It's a a small town city with about 12,547 people. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Cottonwood sits at 364.9 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,080 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Definitely worth checking out..

I work in marketing here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is challenging. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 52, moved here 14 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in South and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The public transit situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for young professionals. decent vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much pricey but now it's average.
