Moving to Country Walk for work -advice?

Hey, I'm a 44-year-old sales rep and Rent is about $2,553/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Country Walk sits at 288.1 per 100K. Homes are going for about $489,400 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. What would you do? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Came here for school and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The healthcare is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely improving and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in construction here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is underrated. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..
