Is Crestwood Village walkable?

Longtime lurker here, I work in construction and Homes are going for about $95,700 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 5 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 14 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 11 years. Moved from Charlotte for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is tough - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
- The nightlife scene is solid

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

I've been here 13 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.
