Relocating to Croton-on-Hudson, NY -pros and cons?

Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and The median home value here is around $702,600, which is pretty steep. The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $2,370 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thoughts? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 14 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Asian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
