Rent vs buy in Cumberland -what makes sense?

What are your go-to spots? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Moved here from Nashville about 2 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to cultural scene but No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Springfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
