Came here for my partner's job and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The public transit is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Phoenix it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Seattle about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in South for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The job market scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
