Anyone else feel this way? I'm a college student here and With a population of 19,209, Durant is a small town. Rent is about $908/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 19,209 people. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Thoughts? Appreciate any input. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Used to live on the Cedar Grove side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 47, moved here 11 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Highland and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The traffic situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
