Things that make Durant unique

I'm retired and Rent is about $908/month for a decent place. With a population of 19,209, Durant is a small town. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Anyone in a similar situation?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 24, moved here 4 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Eastside and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The traffic situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much reasonable but now it's decent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much reasonable but now it's pretty good.
