Hello, I grew up here but left for a while. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $601,300 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in East for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The walkability scene is improving
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..
