Affordable areas near Edgewood?

Hey, I'm retired and It's a a smaller city city with about 25,170 people. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $234,700 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Friendly people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Lack of diversity
- Boring for young people
What are your go-to spots? The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much pricey but now it's excellent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 37, moved here 5 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Old Town and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The job market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
