Curious what people think. I work in real estate and Rent is about $1,435/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Edgewood sits at 468.4 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Let me know your thoughts. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Atlanta it's surprisingly good.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Seattle about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely underrated and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
