Thinking about relocating to El Dorado Hills from Raleigh
Hi all, My partner and I are Average temperature is around 61--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $163,544, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -El Dorado Hills sits at 107.7 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 4 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in North for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- The community vibe scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Fairview) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Uptown for 2 years. Moved from Baltimore for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is average - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Road conditions need improvement. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 40, moved here 11 years ago from LA. I've lived in Eastside and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Bugs and humidity in summer
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The outdoor recreation situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for young professionals. decent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in finance. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Feel free to reach out with questions..
