Life in El Dorado as a young professional

Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and Household incomes average around $54,828 in El Dorado. Poverty rate is 16.1%, which is higher than I expected. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any advice would be great.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The walkability is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 50, moved here 12 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Fairview and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The dating scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for young professionals. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.
