Best areas to explore in El Monte?

So, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $64,484 in El Monte. Rent is about $1,677/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
