As a 11-year resident, here are some things about El Monte that don't make it into the guides:
1. The farmers market on Saturday mornings is incredible
2. Community events happen almost every weekend
3. The sunsets here are genuinely beautiful

Coming from Dallas, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are slightly more expensive but housing makes up for it.
