The truth about El Monte — honest review
Been a El Monte resident for 1 years. Here's my honest take:
Pros:
- Strong job market
- Low crime in most areas
- Reasonable housing
Cons:
- Summer heat is intense
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 9/10. It's not perfect but it works for our family.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Highland Park. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

As someone who moved here from Seattle, I can confirm most of this. The job opportunities surprised me the most.

Coming from Atlanta, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are slightly more expensive but housing makes up for it.
