Best restaurants in Elburn?

Anyone else feel this way? You can expect to pay around $1,705 for rent here. Poverty rate is 5.1%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Asian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 10 years. Moved from San Francisco for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is solid - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited entertainment options. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 2 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (The Heights) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2022 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.
