Elizabeth City quality of life -am I missing something?
So, Household incomes average around $50,947 in Elizabeth City. What would you do? The city has invested a lot in new development.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Fairview for 12 years. Moved from San Francisco for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is decent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Limited entertainment options. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Came here for work and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor recreation is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Boston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a teacher, 29, moved here 8 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Springfield and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
