Job market in Elizabeth City for tech?

Random thought, Poverty rate is 11.5%, which is around average. With a population of 18,740, Elizabeth City is a small town. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Anyone in a similar situation? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 2 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Boston about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely tough and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (East) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
