I've lived in South for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The dating scene scene is average
The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
No regrets on my end..

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.

I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
