Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $130,500, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 5.4%, which is about average. You can expect to pay around $897 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Thoughts? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from LA about 11 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 15 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely challenging and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
