Best hidden gems in Evanston

Curious what people think. We have two kids and With a population of 76,552, Evanston is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Evanston sits at 155.3 per 100K. Median household income is $95,766, which feels pretty solid for the area. The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:

- Good job market
- Friendly people
- Diverse community
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Far from major airports
- Chain restaurants dominate
Am I wrong here? Cheers. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
