I work in healthcare and Poverty rate is 5.0%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,698/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Let me know your thoughts.

Longtime lurker here, Crime rate is something to consider -Evanston sits at 155.3 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think? Property taxes are high but you get good services.
