Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $472,300, which is pretty steep. With a population of 76,552, Evanston is a smaller city. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Thoughts? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great seafood places. I genuinely enjoy living here.
