Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from New York about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 56, moved here 1 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in The Heights and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The safety situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Nashville it's excellent.
