Curious what people think. My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 24,309 people. You can expect to pay around $1,691 for rent here. The median home value here is around $513,100, which is pretty steep. With a population of 24,309, Farragut is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Nashville about 8 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Uptown for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The pet-friendliness scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much competitive but now it's improving.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.
