Longtime lurker here, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The traffic scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a chef who relocated here from Tampa about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The dating scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 36, moved here 1 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Fairview and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The school system situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
