Considering French Valley vs Los Angeles -help me decide

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a college student here and Rent is about $3,016/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $637,800 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -French Valley sits at 62.7 per 100K. Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $132,605 in French Valley. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 57, moved here 9 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in The Heights and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Westside area are underrated. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.
