Relocating to French Valley, CA -pros and cons?

Hi all, I'm retired and Crime rate is something to consider -French Valley sits at 62.7 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Median household income is $132,605, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $3,016/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Would love some local perspective. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 8 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 1 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Urban sprawl is real. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in East for 8 years. Moved from Houston for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is tough - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited entertainment options. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
